Has anyone else used the Chainmail guide on the Loydianaspects site to make their own armor? If so, let's see your results! I'll start! I have followed the A2 pattern with some alterations. The chest and back only contract down by 2 rings in the center rather than the prescribed 4 and below that the shirt is a simple tube with no expansions to accommodate the waist. The rings are right around 8mm internal diameter but I spun and cut them myself so there is some variance. I have my arm outstretched to show the fit of the arms and the armpit. You may notice a strange wave under my outstretched arm. This wave is to do with how I have constructed the armpit. I used my best interpretation of the pattern found on the Moghul mail as it was described. Something about this method just made sense to me but it does have certain advantages. One being that the sleeve can be narrowed using contractions with the grain rather than against. The other big advantage is that within the triangle the grain is vertical and resist collapsing along the major axis such that it holds the sleeve up when the arm is raised when otherwise it might fall, exposing the underarm. I certainly hope this has been interesting to someone and I brim with anticipation to see other interpretations, perhaps even your interpretations of history's most universal form of armor!
